A year in my small urban garden…

Plants and harvests throughout a year in my small urban garden in Cardiff, Wales….

In 2016 I grew as many edible plants and flowers as possible in my tiny little urban garden including….lovage, sorrel, borage, various lettuce, rocket, landcress, chard, nasturtiums, chives, sage, mint, pea shoots, rosemary, radishes, raspberries, gooseberries, blackcurrents, strawberries, courgettes, tomatoes (10 varieties), beetroot, purple orache, tomatillos, potatoes, kale and probably a few more things I’ve forgotten!

I also grew lots of pollinator friendly flowers and have tried to create mini habitats for wildlife, not to mention harvesting a huge amount of willow…it’s surprising what you can do in such a tiny space and it’s become a space where I love to be.

My largest harvests were…

Tomatoes - 18kg which is about £90 worth

Strawberries - 1.2kg which is about £12 worth

Salad leaves - 2.5kg which is about £25 worth

This year I’ll keep growing and learning and hope to share my experiences with lots of you x
