Stay at home, grow your own

We have some very exciting news! We are being supported by Food For Life Get Togethers and The National Lottery Community Fund through their Emergency Covid 19 small grants scheme to expand our plant rescues collaboration with Bute Park Nursery!

In April Green Squirrel teamed up with Bute Park Nursery and local community growing groups to rescue plants that would have gone to waste and distribute them free of charge to our community, including those in self isolation and vulnerable groups. Alongside fellow community organisations Grow Cardiff, Eartha and Growing Street Talk and with the help of local volunteers we have saved and distributed more than 2700 plants across Cardiff!

We are now able to expand this scheme and will be working with our partners over the next few months to grow veg seedlings and share them with our communities along with resources and guidance.

It’ so exciting to see such a surge of interest in food growing throughout Cardiff and we want to support those who may be growing edible crops for the first time as well as those who have experience to share.
