Cardiff Skill Share

Comments Off on Cardiff Skill Share

We love to connect our community and share skills, this usually happens during our workshops and at events, however with everyone in lockdown we thought we could give some virtual skill sharing a go!

How does it work?
We are keeping this simple so as many people as possible can take part - we are inviting our tutors, volunteers and community across Cardiff to get involved but anyone, anywhere, any age can join in! We are asking you to choose a skill to share, film a demo/tips/instructions and get sharing on social media with us tagged in…

Step one: Choose your skill - it can be anything really but we are looking for useful skills that help us waste less, reuse, repurpose, mend things, grow things, build stuff and generally live greener lifestyles. You can always browse our example list of skills and choose one of those to get you started as well as seeing what other skills are being covered. You don’t have to be an expert, just willing to share your skills and experience.

Step two: Make a quick video of you demoing your skill - this is the fun part! Keep it quick and simple, you don’t need any fancy equipment - just your smartphone! We’ve put together a few quick tips below. If you prefer not to make a video then you could write some short instructions and take a few photos instead.

Step three: Get ready to share your video/instructions on social media tagging us in @BeMoreSquirrel (on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter) using the hashtag #Cardiffskillshare OR send the video to [email protected] and we’ll share it for you!

We’ll be sharing your videos via our online platforms throughout the next month so you’ve got plenty of time to take part. You can join the facebook event here to connect with others taking part.

Happy skill sharing folks!

Quick video tutorial tips:

  1. Plan your skill share - make bullet points - keep it simple.
  2. Get your kit / ingredients ready.
  3. Choose where to film - keep the background simple, not too cluttered.
  4. Make sure there’s enough light - use natural sunlight or even lamps to brighten the space.
  5. Make sure you film in landscape.
  6. Use a tripod or secure your phone to avoid wobbles or find a helper!
  7. Remember to speak up so the recording isn’t too quiet.
  8. Introduce yourself and say where you live if you like.
  9. Keep it fun and upbeat - pets and children are welcome to cameo!

But don’t worry if you can’t do all of the above - just keep it quick and easy!
